About the Event
The Art of Creative Self-Expression
a four week LIVEstream series via ZOOM
4p - 6:30p PST (check your time zone)
In this four week Online Series, Â students are invited to explore and expand the boundaries of your creative self-expression.
Creative self-expression is the art of how you reveal your creative imagination, of how you express your  creative energies.Â
Many of us live with a degree of resistance and inner blocks, or with some measure of paralysis.Â
This four week series is for you if you possess a curiosity and desire to tap deeper into your creative expressiveness. This workshop is designed to expand and deepen your relationship with yourself and your connection to the world around you through your ability to express yourself freely through creative means. Â
Plan to attend all four sessions that are two and half hours each for a total of ten hours of online instruction. Your workshop participation will include downloadable handouts, journal prompts and step by step guidance with art techniques.Â
The Art of Creative Self-Expression is Beginner Friendly and also ideal for the seasoned art maker, especially for those who  struggle with perfectionism and "not getting it right." This workshop shop series is  for you if you would like to loosen up in your current creative practices.Â
This series will be LIVEstream in real time. Check your time zone. All times are posted in Pacific Standard Time. Â Recordings will be available. Showing up each week is highly encouraged as the energy of creative camraderie cannot be duplicated in a recording. Get your calendar lined up to commit to the four week series.
Here is the run-down of the schedule :
Week One : Oct 25th  Transform Your Inner Critic
In our kick off week students will be guided in a proven approach to not merely manage  the pesky inner critic that shoots down so many of our ideas, but to instead TRANSFORM our inner critic into  an  inner ally. Creative exercises include journal prompts and Blind Doodle Drawing.Â
Week Two : Nov 1st Breaking Creative Taboos
In week two,  we will define and uncover creative taboos that do not serve you. Taboos and prohibitions will be explored in this discussion driven segment of The Art of Creative Self-Expression. We will spend the last 90 minutes in guided mixed-media art with  collage and paint.Â
Week Three : Nov 8th Magic in the Mess
This is a very artful week where we will spend the entirety of our time in mixed-media art making. Creative intuition will be the driver as we learn and practice the art of letting go and allowing the magic in the mess of our art making to appear and inform. This will be a very playful session of creative mayhem!
Week Four : Nov 15th Expressive Mixed-media
In this final week we will spend the first part of the workshop in guided mixed-media art that is loose and expressive. Techniques such as layering with collage will be reviewed as well as new techniques introduced such as resistance and distress techniques with dry brushing and the use of paper towels and a spray bottle. Learn more about the art of expressing yourself through art making with your unique creative voice. We will end the week and the series with a guided discussion of our takeaways as well as show and tell of art that we have made. This is a time to STRUT and showcase your Creative Expressiveness.
SUPPLY LIST
- Journal or notebook
- Fave penÂ
- Watercolor paper or Mixed-media Paper, size 9x12 is ideal though larger is ok, too
- Watercolor Palette. You can find a decent palette on Amazon in the $20 range. Get one that has at least 6 colors. If you already have watercolor paints, plan to use the palette you already have
- Watercolor brush ROUND Size 4 or 6. Â I like any of the brushes from Princeton. You can find a good brush for under $10.Â
- Pencil
- Gel medium or mod podge for glueing collage.Â
- Flat brush or foam brush for applying gel medium/mod podge
- White acrylic paint or gessoÂ
- Random paper elements to collage with such as scrapbooking paper, old maps, sheet music, magazines, etc...
- Small spray bottle
- Paper Towels
- Optional : any fave art supplies you like to use in your art making such as various paints, art crayons, Inktense pigments, Stabilo pencils, rubber stamps, stencils, stencil sprays, and so on......
Do your best to have these supplies on hands. You can always improvise with what you already  have. Most important is to have a journal or notebook, and also some watercolor paper or mixed-media paper that can be used for art making. Notebook paper will work in a pinch, but it is so lightweight it will fall apart pretty easy. Â
