Mixed-media collage is an art form that combines collage and paint as well as other mediums to create rich tapestries of color, pattern and texture. It is a very freeing and easy process that is both beginner friendly as well as useful for the seasoned art maker.
In this LIVEstream workshop, you will be guided step by step to make a one-of-a-kind artwork. It is a playful process with much liberty for discovery and indulging creative curiosity.
Please note this is a LIVEstream in Real Time art workshop. Prepare your art making space before our start time so you are ready to go. This will be a lively workshop with opportunity for interaction with me and your fellow students. There will be an unedited recording available afterward if you cannot make it or want to review the process.
LIVEstream art workshops with others allows for creative camaraderie and connection across the digital miles. Invite your friend or family member who lives elsewhere to join you and revel in the creative juices together of what you will create.
PLEASE NOTE YOUR TIME ZONE. This workshop will start at 12 noon west coast time in the US [GMT-07:00 PT (America/Los_Angeles)]
This mixed-media collage art workshop is limited to just 30 participants. I am a very relational art instructor and want to be sure everyone is seen and heard as much as they need. Art making in a group is meaningful as we create in the company of one another, even over Zoom in the digital airwaves. Consider keeping your camera open as we work together, though of course I welcome shy students who prefer to be more private as they participate.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
Paper to collage with such as magazines, old maps, sheet music, thrift store books with illustrations, old recipe books, etc.... also consider my Art Zines which are designed to be enjoyed and then torn up for collage. Order them if you like HERE
Mod Podge or gel medium for glue
Brushes (a flat brush or foam brush for applying Mod Podge or gel medium), a round or flat for playing with paint, super easy here, and really it's ok if you only have one brush or even no brush... improvising is part of the fun when making art!
A canvas panel or wood board (or even mixed-media paper) to create your art on. Go for at least a 9x12 in size
Acrylic paint (you just need 2-4 colors, include white and then whatever you like)
Paper Towels
Water Cup
Spray Bottle (small or medium though any size works great)
OPTIONAL : rubber stamps, stencils, bubble wrap, scribble sticks, stabilo pencil
Do your best with supplies, but please don't stress on trying to have everything. Collage paper and paint are the main things.
PREPARE YOUR SPACE
Before our workshop begins, have your art making space prepared with all your supplies within reach. This can be a messy process as some people go wild (like me!). Consider covering your table space if needed with paper bags or a drop cloth. Also consider your clothing. Acrylic paint is difficult to remove once it dries on clothing. Wear an apron or a painting shirt (which is so fun to use over and over again and watch it get colorful from splatters over time) Also ensure that you will be able to observe the class with ease as you follow along.
I will open up the LIVEstream studio 15 minutes before our start time. You are welcome to login and finish your prep with me and other early birds who like to arrive ahead of schedule.
